Background and Discussion:
This is a request for authorization to accept a grant for voluntary acquisitions through Texas Water Development Board- Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) 2022 grant program. The Harris County Flood Control District utilizes this annual grant program to leverage local funds and acquire properties in approved buyout areas to reduce flood damages and protect people and property.
Expected Impact:
Actual acquisition of the properties will be handled by the Harris County Real Property Division and individual properties will be submitted to Commissioners Court for approval. With this authorization, the Flood Control District can continue the process of removing structures located several feet deep in the floodplain and within buyout areas of interest while reducing the risk of future flood damage.
