Background and Discussion:

The project involves intersection improvements at Vickery Street and Lauder Road.  The planned enhancements include realigning the intersection, road widening in all directions to accommodate turn lanes, full-width concrete pavement replacement, installation of a traffic signal, new sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, and bus pads.

This change order includes:

-                     The sprinkler lines, sprinkler valve boxes, antenna, and trees obstructing the new sidewalk installation on the west side of Vickery Street, south of Lauder Road, were not present during the survey and design, so they were not included in the bid.  The Engineer of Record has no objection to the contractor pricing their relocation. This change order will add 4 days and additional cost of $5,710.96 to the contract.

-                     The delay was caused by the extended removal process of two utility poles-a metal streetlight pole and a wooden power line pole-that were in direct conflict with the road widening. Although the contractor promptly paid the removal fees to CenterPoint as per contract, the removal was delayed from October to January due to CenterPoint’s scheduling, impacting project progress.  This change will add 60 days and no additional fees.

Expected Impact:

Increase the total cost for the contract.

Alternative Options:

No action will result in substandard construction.
