Background and Discussion:

Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and Houston Recovery Center (HRC) have collaborated in previous efforts to provide extended case management and peer recovery support services offering access to medical, psychiatric care, and MAT to those released into the community from the care, custody, and control of HCSO. Data from this project showed that there was a much lower OUD and AUD relapse rate among patients opting to participate in HCSO’s Comprehensive Care for Opioid and Alcohol Use Disorders. Additionally, the same data suggests much-lowered recidivism rates among this same population.

Expected Impact:

The expected impact is to provide Harris County Jail inmates with substance abuse classes and treatment and possible temporary housing upon release.
