Background and Discussion:

This Memorandum of Understanding with the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) will provide Harris County with an $11,000 grant for 1 year with no required match to for the Naturalize Now, Houston! Celebrate Citizenship Initiative Program and further the county’s immigration and naturalization efforts. This strategy will be implemented to celebrate the naturalized community to build trust amongst organizations and local government and promote civic engagement.

The National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) is a national multiethnic, multiracial partnership network of 86 of the country’s leading immigrant and refugee rights organizations who together advocate for policies and programs to successfully integrate New Americans. NPNA exists to 1) strengthen immigrant and refugee voices in our nation by building the policy and program capacities of our member organizations; and 2) pursue policy campaigns with our members at the local, state, and federal level; and, 3) Deepen our strategic partnership to advance immigrant and refugee inclusion and equity in the United States.

Expected Impact:

The $11,000 grant from NPNA will support the Naturalize Now, Houston! Celebrate Citizenship Initiative Program by expanding outreach and resources to eligible residents in Harris County. With these funds, the program can help increase access to naturalization services, raise awareness about the benefits of U.S. citizenship, and provide greater support for lawful permanent residents navigating the application process. This investment is expected to result in more complete applications, stronger community engagement, and an overall increase in the number of new citizens in Harris County.
