Background and Discussion:

Due to an increasing number of criminal cases and decedents, the existing morgue facility has increased the capacity of the existing freezers with the use of higher density storage units, so the freezer will not be expanded.  The project is now only focused on the Autopsy Suite, which include remediation of floor slope issues, new autopsy equipment and remodeling required to space to accommodate a possible re-spacing of utilities to serve the new autopsy tables and layout.   Johnston was selected as the Prime Consultant and approved on December 2024 Commissioner’s Court.

Expected Impact:

Approval of the Professional Services proposal & agreement will provide Architectural & Engineering services necessary to remodel the Autopsy Suite increasing the capability for the Medical Examiner’s office to process cases more quickly and efficiently adhering to the highest industry standards, thereby improving service to the community and law enforcement.
