Background and Discussion:
This parcel is located at 2202 Nance Street, Houston, TX 77002 in the Buffalo Bayou watershed. Harris County uses this parcel as a parking lot. The State of Texas, acting by and through the Texas Transportation Commission (TxDOT) requests a portion of the parking lot for improved public transportation related to the project known as IH 45 (ROW CSJ: 0500-08-002, the “Highway Construction Project”). The sale of this parcel to TxDOT will avoid eminent domain proceedings.
There are approximately 337 parking spaces at the Nance St. parking lot. The sale of this parcel to TxDOT will eliminate approximately 10%, 30-40 parking spaces. Funding for restriping and repair work is included in the monetary consideration to Harris County.
Expected Impact:
The sale of this parcel will allow for future development of the IH 45 infrastructure to accommodate the demand of public use. Harris County will have approximately 10% fewer parking spaces at the Nance St. parking lot.
Alternative Options:
The County has the option to not voluntarily sale the subject property to TxDOT and instead face eminent domain proceedings.
Alignment with Goal(s):
_ Justice and Safety
_ Economic Opportunity
_ Housing
_ Public Health
X Transportation
_ Flooding
_ Environment
X Governance and Customer Service
