Background and Discussion:
Harris County Office of the County Engineer (OCE) is submitting a request seeking a resolution to authorize the Supplemental Transportation Program funds allocation by Houston-Galveston Area Council for the utilization of construction of improved traffic signals - a critical safety project. The grant award is for a total of $17,928,207, with $12,501,346 in federal funding, $21,525 of State funds with a local match of $5,405,336.
The preservation of critical infrastructure is vital to improve the condition, reliability, and resilience of County transportation infrastructure. Connecting our communities to safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well- maintained infrastructure is paramount. The proposed project includes replacement of older traffic signals at 19 locations in Precinct 1 with new traffic signals with updated technologies. The Office of the County Engineer is requesting approval of a grant resolution with the intent to execute an Advance Funding Agreement with TxDOT to receive grant funds.
