Project Description:
The project involves the supply and installation of 5,593 square feet of 8mm thick Mondo athletic flooring in the Freed Park gymnasium. The new surface will include game lines for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and three-sided pickleball courts. The scope also includes cope base, thresholds, and high relative humidity adhesive. Installation is expected to take approximately 10 days, with a lead time of 3-4 weeks. The flooring comes with a 10-year warranty, although references indicate that similar installations have remained in excellent condition for up to 20 years.
MONDO flooring is a high-performance, shock-absorbent, and water-resistant surface engineered for safety, speed, and durability. It enhances traction, reduces the risk of injury, and supports peak athletic performance. Widely used in Olympic venues and elite training facilities, it is available in a range of colors, including options that mimic real hardwood. The surface is designed for multi-purpose use, making it ideal for both sports and events involving chairs or tables, and it requires no specialized maintenance or cleaning.

Justification & Alternatives:
Having recently completed upgrades to the ceiling and walls of the Freed Park Gymnasium, attention has now turned to the existing flooring, which is showing clear signs of deterioration. The current vinyl tile surface is significantly worn, with several tiles becoming loose over time, creating both aesthetic and functional issues. In addition, the game lines on the floor are currently applied using tape, which not only detracts from the overall appearance but also poses a potential tripping hazard for users.
Upgrading to Mondo athletic flooring will address these safety concerns while also enhancing the overall quality and functionality of the space. The new surface will provide a seamless, professional-grade finish that supports a variety of recreational and community activities. As a high-performance, durable, and low-maintenance flooring option, this upgrade aligns with the facility’s long-term goals of safety, versatility, and modern design. It will significantly elevate the user experience and ensure the gym remains a safe, attractive, and multi-purpose environment for years to come.
