Background and Discussion:

Work Texas Training Center (Work Texas) has awarded the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department

(HCJPD) $86,333.15 to fund one full-time equivalent Director of Workforce Development Director Position for the period of Oct 15, 2024 through October 14, 2025. The Department will pay for fringe benefits, as has been done historically ($38,556.69).  The position will assist HCJPD through its Opportunity Center (TOC), formerly known as The Education Transition Center (ETC) in locating employment and creating career opportunities for youth who are justice involved.  Work Texas has provided funding for this position since October, 2020.  The funds must be used specifically for the designated purpose by November 30, 2025.

Expected Impact:

The Director of Workforce Development (Director) will serve as the HCJPD single point of contact for youth related vocational training and employment programs. The Director shall provide day-to-day oversight of vocational training and employment programs, and work with the community and employers to eliminate barriers to employment and hire youth who are justice-involved. The goal is to provide strategic planning and guidance, executive management and staff in all areas of HCJPD’s implementation of youth vocational and employment programs.
