Background and Discussion:

Harris County Public Library requires a modern data protection and recovery solution to ensure continuity of operations and protection against data loss, ransomware, and system failures. The current environment requires enhanced backup, recovery, and cloud-based resiliency capabilities to support critical systems, including Microsoft 365 workloads.

Cohesity was selected through the DIR cooperative contract (DIR-CPO-4430) to provide an integrated solution that includes on-premises hardware, cloud-based vaulting (FortKnox), and backup services. The agreement with Netsync Network Solutions, Inc. provides the necessary licensing, equipment, and implementation services to deploy this solution.

Expected Impact:

Approval of this agreement will significantly improve the Library’s data security posture by enabling secure backups, ransomware protection, and rapid recovery capabilities. The Cohesity platform provides centralized management of backups across on-premises and cloud environments, reducing operational risk and downtime.

This solution will also enhance business continuity by ensuring critical systems and data can be restored quickly, supporting uninterrupted library services to the public.

Alternative Options:

If this agreement is not approved, the Library will not have a supported or fully functional backup and recovery solution in place. This would eliminate the ability to reliably back up and restore critical systems and data, significantly increasing the risk of permanent data loss, extended service outages, and inability to recover from ransomware or other cybersecurity incidents. The absence of a validated backup solution would also impact operational continuity and the Library’s ability to deliver essential services to the public.
