Background and Discussion:

The Emerging Leaders Program was launched as an initiative of Commissioner Lesley Briones and Precinct4Forward to help bridge the gap between high school students and meaningful career opportunities. The program was created in response to the need for more career-connected learning experiences that expose students to professional environments, postsecondary pathways, and future career possibilities. The inaugural class of Emerging Leaders Lab 2025 has returned to become the first class in the Emerging Leaders Launch 2026 program.

Expected Impact:

The Emerging Leaders Program aims to increase student awareness of career opportunities, strengthen career readiness skills, and build confidence in students' ability to achieve their future goals. By providing hands-on exposure to professional workplaces, the program helps students make more informed decisions about college, training programs, and career pathways after graduation. Results from the inaugural 2025 Lab cohort demonstrate the program's effectiveness: • 100% of participants rated their job shadowing experience as "Very Good" or "Excellent." • 90% reported being "Very Interested" or "Extremely Interested" in pursuing a career in the field they shadowed. • 100% felt welcomed and supported by program staff and workplace partners. • 100% would recommend the program to a friend.
