Background and Discussion:

The Texas Southern University (TSU) Breast Cancer Screening and Prevention Center is an initiative aimed at addressing breast cancer disparities, particularly among underserved communities in Houston and surrounding areas.  The agreement expires October 1, 2026, with up to two (2) two-year optional renewal terms.

Expected Impact:

Offering breast cancer screenings at local community centers improves access to early detection, especially for underserved populations, by removing barriers like transportation and cost. These programs increase survival rates through early diagnosis and promote health equity by providing culturally appropriate education and care. They also foster community engagement and long-term prevention habits.
