Background and Discussion:

The project is located within the South Mayde Creek Watershed in western Harris County. The Roland Road subdivision consist of mainly roadside ditches and has been subjected to several flooding events.  The scope and proposed improvements include surface collection, ditch grading and storm sewer conveyance of the drainage along Roland Road. The existing HCFCD U201-09-00 channel will be extended from Porter Road to Katy Hockley Cutoff Road to provide reduction in inundation of the subdivision. These parcels to be acquired are specifically for the channel extension needed for project improvements.

Expected Impact:

With acquiring the request tracts for multiple new stormwater and grass-lined channel, this project seeks to reduce flood risk and strengthen resiliency in Harris County by assisting in the alleviation of structural flood damage to homes in the community. This acquisition is a step in the process to reduce the financial, physical, and emotional burden flood damage places on homeowners and will reduce the financial impact of recovery costs to the Roland Road subdivision homeowners and Harris County.

Alternative Options:

Alternative tracts were analyzed to reduce number of parcels needed. The requested amount is the required area.
