Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request for approval of an award on the basis of successful negotiations with the highest overall evaluation and that the County Judge execute an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. in the amount of $1,276,588 for professional architectural and/or engineering services for the design of the expansion of the Sheriff’s Office Precision Driving Course for the Office of the County Engineer (240386), MWBE Contracted Goal: 19.60%.
end
Background and Discussion:
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office would like to build a Precision Driving Course to train deputies on various driving techniques for a multitude of scenarios. The new facility would include a track to simulate highway driving and roadway test speed curves under wet and dry conditions. There would also be a road skid test section and simulated urban street driving section. Currently, deputies receive training at a remote parking lot that is a 45-minute drive from the HCSO Academy classrooms.
Expected Impact:
Approval of this Professional Services contract will provide a Technical Consultant to the HCSO for the design of the Precision Driving Course for the HCSO. This will allow law enforcement to advance their driving skills to safely complete their duties and keep the community safe.
Alternative Options:
The County could elect to reject the request. However, if not approved, the lack of a Technical Consultant advising the HCSO will hinder the ability to provide sufficient space and training for law enforcement.
