Background and Discussion:

On November 14, 2023, Commissioners Court approved an updated position management policy that implemented a formal review and approval process for departmental requests for reclassifications and changes to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status. The policy allowed for exceptions when a position change is necessary to adhere to internal policies and/or regulatory requirements, but the exceptions must still be submitted to Commissioners Court on the following court date as a transmittal.

 

The policy was amended on May 7, 2024, to streamline the process by allowing exceptions to Commissioners Court approval for reclassifications to where the salary range maximum will be less than $50 per hour, the salary range maximum is decreasing, or the salary range does not change. Any reclassifications not requiring Commissioners Court approval under the amended policy must be submitted as a transmittal on the agenda. Reclassifications that may result in a Senate Bill 23 budget impact must still be approved by Commissioners Court.
