Background and Discussion:
This notice of funding opportunity supports comprehensive service networks addressing untreated mental illness and substance use to reduce the burden of law enforcement and the justice system. While the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) grant application is still under development, the stated purposes of the Public Safety and Mental Health Initiative are to address untreated mental illness and substance use to reduce the burden on law enforcement and the justice system, decrease recidivism, reduce crime, and improve overall public safety.
