Background and Discussion:
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Healthy Homes Production program provides funding to identify and remediate housing-related health and safety hazards in low-income owner-occupied and rental housing. The program emphasizes protecting vulnerable populations, including children under six years of age, older adults, and persons with disabilities, through comprehensive healthy homes interventions, public education, and partnerships that integrate housing, environmental health, and community services. Harris County Public Health currently administers a Lead Hazard Control Program serving eligible homes in unincorporated Harris County, and this funding opportunity would expand the County's capacity to address additional housing-related environmental hazards while strengthening existing healthy homes and lead hazard reduction efforts. HCPH is requesting the court’s permission to formally apply for the funds.
