Background and Discussion:
The TVC Veterans Mental Health Peer Support Grant enables VSD to provide non-clinical support to incarcerated Harris County veterans including re-entry planning services, in-jail peer support services and post release peer sessions. This is an existing grant renewal that covers 3 positions 100% grant funded, with a new PCN request on this renewal that is also 100% grant funded.

Expected Impact:
Lowering the recidivism rates of veterans in the Harris County jail.

Alternative Options:
Inaction, Harris County continues to see a disproportionate incarceration rate among its veteran population versus its general population.

County Strategic Plan Goal: 4. Improve physical and mental health outcomes across all communities.
County Strategic Plan Objective: D: Reduce racial, ethnic, and economic disparities in the criminal legal system.
Justice/Safety Initiative (Goal 1): D1: Enhance reentry program support.
Infrastructure Initiative (Goal 2): Choose an item.
