Background and Discussion:
To replace our older Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray units approaching their end-of-life, due to regular use to fulfill the mission of MVCD. The ULV spray units are utilized for adulticide control operations to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases and protect residents in Harris County. These units are used for nightly ULV operations (to apply adulticide) to control adult mosquito populations and impact the spread of vector-borne diseases during the season of high disease transmission risk. Each unit runs anywhere from 6 to 8 hours a
night 5 days a week for roughly 6 months (720 hrs. to 960 hrs. per year) and overtime these units have begun to wear out and degrade from constant use. In the event of local weather events, these same units may have to sustain prolonged periods of use to support recovery efforts.
