Background and Discussion:
Veterinary Public Health, a division of Public Health Services, provides veterinary care and adoption services for homeless pets, a low-cost pet clinic for the public, zoonotic disease surveillance, responsible pet ownership education, as well as animal control services in neighborhoods throughout unincorporated Harris County.
Expected Impact:
The Foster 50 Challenge is expected to significantly increase foster engagement and capacity at Harris County Pets, allowing more animals to be placed in temporary homes and reducing shelter overcrowding. By expanding the foster network, pets will experience improved health, behavior, and overall well-being while awaiting adoption. This initiative will also strengthen community involvement and awareness, creating a more sustainable and responsive foster program beyond the duration of the challenge.
