Background and Discussion:
Eleven-year-old Josue Flores was stabbed to death on May 17, 2016, while walking home from Marshall Middle School in Houston's Northside Village, a tragedy that prompted a multi-year murder investigation and community activism.
Following the murder, community members founded "Safe Walk Home - Northside" to volunteer to walk neighborhood children to and from school.
The Josue Flores Act was established to provide funding for transportation for children in need.
