Background and Discussion:
The existing channel consists of a concrete bottom with concrete and sheet pile low flow retaining walls. The slopes above the low flow retaining walls are earthen at various grades. The channel is in poor condition and with significant structural failures along multiple segments. The Flood Control District seeks to design and construct necessary upgrades to the channel. The objective of the project is to reconstruct the concrete lined channel within a project limit to provide a greater channel stability in accordance with Flood Control District criteria, while ensuring the proposed modifications do not create adverse impacts. The Preliminary Engineering Report has evaluated four alternatives (1,2,3 and 4) for channel improvements, performed H&H analysis on each of these alternatives and made cost-effective recommendations. Alternative 3 is the recommended design alternative for channel improvements, featuring an open-channel configuration
