Background and Discussion:
Harris County received approval from Commissioners Court on October 29, 2024 (Agenda Item #253) to accept and execute a grant agreement with U. S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) under the FY 2022 Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grant Program in the amount of $2,000,000. The project supports development of a Road Flood Warning System through network prototyping on select medium to high-flood-risk corridors in unincorporated areas of Harris County. The study also explores opportunities to provide information dashboards, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered analysis, and data interexchange at multiple levels: including government agencies, advocacy entities, and the general public. This item requests approval of an amendment to extend the performance period under the grant agreement to allow additional time to complete the remaining project activities.
