Background and Discussion:
In 2014 the District completed a study with the Texas Water Development Board analyzing the Cypress Creek Overflow and providing recommendations to reduce the flooding damages due to the overflow into Addicks Reservoir. In 2016 Commissioners Court approved the Supplemental Guidance and Criteria for development in the region of the Cypress Creek Overflow. In 2020 the District conducted a study examining the potential use of retention to reduce the risk and severity of flooding due to the overflow. This 2025 study will leverage MaapNext data and current day technology to update our understanding of the overflow, update selected results of the two previous studies and provide recommendations to reduce the risk and severity of flooding due to the Cypress Creek Overflow. This information will be available in 2027.
