Background and Discussion:
The leading cause of death among law enforcement officers in Texas is firearm related. Texas had the highest number of law enforcements deaths in the United States in 2024, which showed a significant increase from 2023. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that between 2017 and 2021, (with an uptick in 2021) five highway patrolmen were shot through their patrol vehicle's windshield resulting in the death of 2 of patrolmen.
