Background and Discussion:
Across Harris County, access to nutritious and affordable food remains a pressing public-health challenge. Nearly 700,000 residents live in a food desert, and one in five children experiences food insecurity, according to Children at Risk's 2024 report. The burden is especially concentrated in Precinct 2, where three of the five ZIP codes with the highest rates of food insecurity-77078, 77013, and 77060-are located, as highlighted in Harris County Public Health's 2024 Community Health Assessment.

Food partners play a critical role in addressing these disparities. Their on-the-ground expertise, community trust, and ability to distribute fresh, healthy food directly into neighborhoods make them essential collaborators in our broader strategy to reduce hunger and improve long-term health outcomes across the precinct.

Expected Impact:
This $50,000 contribution is expected to expand food access for families in high-need areas and assist in reducing food insecurity in Precinct 2.
