Background and Discussion:
Local organizations serving vulnerable populations, including homebound seniors, are facing funding shortfalls due to decreases in federal and local grant support. These organizations provide thousands of meals annually to Harris County residents. If unaddressed, hundreds of Harris County residents could be impacted.

Close to 700,000 Harris County residents live in a food desert and 20% of children experience food insecurity according to a 2024 report by Children at Risk. Without County support, hundreds of resident's risk losing access to regular meals and nutrition programs that are essential to their health and well-being.

Expected Impact:
Approval of funding will allow organizations to continue providing meals to vulnerable populations, particularly homebound seniors, continue receiving the meals and nutrition they depend on.
