Background and Discussion:
Second Servings of Houston combats food insecurity and food waste by rescuing surplus, perfectly edible food from businesses and institutions and redirecting it to local nonprofits serving those in need. Through this agreement, our precinct can support and expand food redistribution efforts, helping ensure that excess food reaches vulnerable populations rather than going to waste. The partnership aligns with the County's goals around sustainability, public health, and resource efficiency.

Expected Impact:
This collaboration will enhance the capacity of local food assistance programs, shelters, and community centers by providing them with reliable, no-cost food deliveries. In the long term, the initiative can improve food equity, reduce landfill use, and foster a more resilient and compassionate local food system. The visibility of county involvement may also encourage further community and business engagement.
