Background and Discussion:
Harris County self-insures workers' compensation claims and reimburses a third-party administrator who
evaluates and pays claims for job-related injuries in accordance with State statute and regulations.

Expected Impact:
A third-party administrator is necessary to ensure claims for injured employees are reviewed promptly and
eligible payments are made to the employee and their providers timely and accurately according to statutes
and regulations. Cost containment services are necessary to minimize the cost of services and inappropriate or
unnecessary treatments.
