Request by the County Courts for approval of a resolution in support of the creation of County Civil Court at Law 5.

Background and Discussion:
The County Civil Courts at Law (1-4) respectfully request a resolution from Commissioners Court supporting a request to the Texas Legislature urging the creation of a new court to be named County Civil Court at Law 5. Currently, the existing 4 County Civil Courts at Law operate at a very high level of efficiency but are not able to meet established national time standards for the disposition of cases. Creation of a new Civil Court will allow more timely disposition of cases in the courts. Faster dispositions better serve the parties to cases, the community, and the County. A recent study by the National Center for State Courts indicated there is a need for 8 judicial officers in this division based on the current filings. The creation of one court will reduce this deficiency and allow all 5 courts to operate more effectively.
