Background and Discussion:
The Safe School Commission was established by Commissioners Court as an ad-hoc advisory group in June 2022. The commission was charged with developing recommendations on how the Court could support all 25 Independent School Districts' and Private Schools' safety strategies in time for the 2022-2023 school year. The Court reappointed members during the 2023-2024 school year and, in June of this year, extended the appointment terms of commission members beyond the 2023-2024 school year and through December 31, 2024. In August 2024, the Court approved bylaws and established the commission as a standing commission to continue to review, work, and develop recommendations related to school safety strategies year-round. Commission members serve two-year terms. The two commission-recommended student members, Positions 6 and 7, will serve an initial term of 6 months to align with the school year, and one-year terms thereafter, as recommended by the commission.

Expected Impact:
Appointments to vacant commission-recommended seats, positions 6 and 7, which will enable continuity of operations and leadership on the board.
