Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request for approval to execute a Joint Participation Interlocal Agreement with the City of South Houston for traffic signal rebuild design at the intersection of College Avenue at Main Street and the intersection of College Avenue at Austin Street, UPIN 24035MF34Z01, Precinct 2.
end
Background and Discussion:
Traffic signals are re-built to improve the operation of an intersection and better facilitate pedestrian activities. The existing signals use outdated and degrading equipment and do not accommodate pedestrian crossings. Re-building these signals will ensure the two intersections are brought up to compliance with current standards and provide pedestrian connectivity.
Expected Impact:
Re-building the traffic signals will bring the infrastructure to current standards, specifications, and reduce overall maintenance cost. It will also significantly reduce the risk of failure during a catastrophic event.
Alternative Options:
Maintain the existing traffic signal and slowly replace degrading parts as they fail. This may potentially be more costly and incurs a risk of failure due to aging infrastructure.
