Background and Discussion:
This grant relates to an application that was authorized by Commissioners Court on 5/14/19. The grant project focuses on prevention and surveillance strategies, whereby surveillance data related to mortality, clinical, and related data will be linked to support prevention activities centered around care, education, harm reduction and coalition-building.

Expected Impact:
These funds will maintain adequate and specialized staff for the ongoing design, development, and distribution of educational materials on harm reduction, and overdose prevention, the education and distribution of Naloxone to reverse overdoses in the Harris County community and the service provisions for Substance Use Disorder and behavioral health and supportive services. Approval ensures uninterrupted staffing to support grant activities. The OD2A: LOCAL initiative is designed to empower cities, counties, and territories to use data to tailor prevention strategies, specifically targeting groups disproportionately affected by the overdose epidemic, those at the highest risk, and historically underserved populations.
