Background and Discussion:
In accordance with LGC ?152.011 and LGC ?152.901, Harris County Commissioners Court's policy has been to grant a monthly vehicle allowance to elected and appointed County officials as well as to certain County employees to compensate them for using their personal vehicle while on County business within Harris County, but to allow for reimbursement for travel expenses for vehicle usage outside of Harris County if the reimbursement for using the personal vehicle is less than or equal to airfare to the same destination, considering all relevant factors, as determined and approved by the department. As approved by Commissioners Court, the current maximum monthly allowance is $575 (car) and $585 (motorcycle) for law enforcement officers and, subject to Commissioners Court approval, $550 for elected officials and department heads and $420 for other non-law enforcement personnel.
As provided under County Auditor's Policy I.1-1, the request by the District Clerk's Office is for a vehicle allowance for a position in the Executive Division. Once the vehicle allowance is approved by Commissioners Court it will be implemented for an ongoing basis and is to be cancelled only upon the request of the District Clerk.
