Background and Discussion: Library collections must be diverse and inclusive, offering windows into and reflections of the vast array of people, stories and experiences. In this course, the County Library will learn from a group of experts as they explore key concepts essential to cultivating and promoting inclusive collections. They will gain the tools to conduct a diversity and inclusion audit of the library collection and hear about ways to include wider perspectives from and about LGBTQIA+ people, Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and historically underrepresented ethnicities, cultures, and religions. They will learn how to ensure collections reflect the diversity of our community and how to establish policies for keeping inclusive collections safe against book challenges.
Expected Impact: The community needs access to library collections that reflect diverse stories and experiences. By attending this educational training, the Collection Development department within the County Library will be better equipped to cultivate and promote inclusive collections.
