Background and Discussion:
The Harris County Safe School Commission was established by Commissioners Court in June 2022 to provide recommendations on how the Commissioners Court can support all 25 Independent School Districts' and Private Schools' safety strategies in time for the 2022-2023 school year and future school years as needed.
Expected Impact:
To extend the terms of the current commission members, which are set to expire on June 30, 2024, so that they may continue to review and develop recommendations related to school safety strategies, in consultation and coordination with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office, Harris County Department of Education, and the Region 4 Education Service Center. Additionally, the commission is exploring a future recommendation to the Court to reestablish the Harris County Safe School Commission as a standing commission of Harris County.
