Background and Discussion:
In 2023, a U.S. Army Solider contacted the HCFMO to inquire participating in the Army Career Skills Program [CSP](unpaid internship). The CSP allows for military soldiers to take administrative leave from the Army, while remaining compensated and insured, to explore civilian employment opportunities and gain skills to ease their transition to civilian life.
During his 12-week internship, the U.S. Army Soldier will attend and complete the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Fire Investigator course along with building skills to be a fire/arson investigator through ride-a-longs with HCFMO Investigators. Solider will sign an HCFMO "Release of Liability" form which will be held on file by the HCFMO. HCFMO will provide weekly updates to the U.S. Army confirming the Solider is actively participating in the program.
This program is conducted at no cost or liability to the County.
Expected Impact:
Solider in the U.S. Army gains industry-recognized skills and experience while the County has an opportunity to gain a skilled Employee while furthering the program as a recruitment tool.
